Font Choices
So, it's not been long since I installed Drupal on my site, and I'm still trying to settle on a design. I don't claim to be an expert in any right, but I think I've sussed exactly what's wrong with Drupal theming. In order to create a visually pleasing Drupal theme with the flexibility required to fit most sites, you have to have both strong graphic design skills, and the technical knowledge to get your head around Drupal's immensely flexible theming engine. I, unfortunately, lack both the former and most of the latter, and as such I'm left to steal other people's design ideas, and reappropriate existing template code.
However, because both of these things are hard to come by in a person, and because I outright refuse to pay for a theme for my website, it's extremely difficult to find a pleasant Drupal 7 theme which is designed neither for a corporate website, nor a teenage girl's blog. As such, I'm back to square 1, and I'm staring blankly at a screen, idly waiting for inspiration to strike.
Ten minutes later and I still haven't got a clue - this is usually the point where I'll start from the logo and work outwards, and this usually means trawling through free font websites, idly waiting for inspiration to strike. Before I know it, I have a browser full of tabs and countless quirky fonts which all look roughly the same.
Hang on, I think inspiration just struck...
